Last night at the 2017 Royal Rumble, John Cena defeated AJ Styles to become the WWE Champion, tying “Nature Boy” Ric Flairs record of being a 16-time world champion! This is incredibly big news, as well as history-making.
Say what you will about John Cena, but I do not think that there has been anyone else in the WWE over the past 15 years (Wow!) who has been as consistently as big of a name as Cena has. Sure, there have been times where his character has been stale or his wrestling was bland, but over the past 2 years Cena has been through somewhat of a career renaissance, and his wrestling as well as his promos have both drastically improved, as well as him opting to take some time away from the spotlight (His last world title win was in 2015). Unless Cena ends up breaking Flairs record and wins the title for a 17th time, which is still in the realm of possibility, then this could very well be the last time that we see John Cena holding a world title in WWE considering that he is starting to slow down now, so drink it in maaaaaaan.
