NJPW: Tomoaki Honma Severely Injured In 6-Man Tag Match

During a New Japan Pro Wrestling live event Friday in Okinawa, Japanese wrestling veteran Tomoaki Honma was reportedly injured after taking a botched DDT in a 6-man tag match. Reports say that Honma sustained severe trauma to his neck, and his in-ring future is currently up in the air. Below is an official statement from NJPW’s official English website on Honma’s condition:

Tomoaki Honma was injured on March 3rd during his match in Okinawa, and immediately rushed to hospital.

He was diagnosed to have injured his cervical vertebrae. In order to recover, he will miss the scheduled March 6th IWGP Tag Team title match and his return to the ring is currently tentative. His tag partner, Togi Makabe, has also declined to compete on March 6th.

As a result, the IWGP Executive Committee has named Hiroyoshi Tenzan and Satoshi Kojima as the challengers.
We apologize to fans who were looking forward to seeing Honma in the ring on March 6th.

We at Suplexes & Spandex wish Tomoaki Honma a very speedy and successful recovery, and hope to see him back in the ring soon.
